Alice in Wonderland

(Pink Bow)

I still haven't seen Alice in Wonderland at the movies, I've been too nervous to. It was my favourite book as a child, my copy is so worn and tattered from all the times I read it, and I know the movie isn't the story of the book but I'm just psyching myself up to go watch it. I do love Johnny Depp though.

Have you guys seen it? What's your opinion?

  1. Hey pretty,

its alice going back to wonderland, I really enjoyed it, I think i hoped it would be more than it was, because of all the hype, but i did enjoy it, and Johnny Depp is a fabulous mad hatter.

I think you will enjoy it! I hope you will. xx

  2. the movie was nothing like the book but it is more like a sequel. I never read the books, but my husband has. he was really disappointed in the movie because of it, but i wasn't, perhaps because I didn't read the books. I thought it was gorgeous and imaginative and quite worth seeing though. It was more of a little bit of a love story and finding courage within yourself to overcome things that maybe people expect too much of in you for.

  5. I loved the film, but don't psyche yourself up too much, or you might be disapointed. It is more like a sequel, it's what happens when alice is a bit older. Johnny Depp is fabulous and I really liked the girl who played Alice. xx

  6. Definitely go see it! I really enjoyed it. As long as you're not expecting a straight adaptation, then I think you'll be right.

  7. That is just the cutest little clock ever!

And the movie was a really amazing kids movie. It wasn't all trippy like I thought it would be but rather a really good sequel. Johnny Depp was amazing too but I pretty much love him in every movie he plays in.

  9. I know a lot of people had mixed feelings about it but I really liked it. I loved all of the characters especially the Hatter and the Red Queen, but Alice was great as well. I enjoyed it much more than the Disney animated version. :D I actually saw it twice in theaters. lol

  10. It took some mulling-over to decide whether or not I liked it, since I've read the books [it was a childhood favorite of mine as well]. The movie was nice, if you're looking for a simple, straightforward plot. The visuals were excellent as well as the casting. It definitely wasn't Tim Burton's best work, but it's still very well done.

  13. I absolutely LOVED it. And that's coming from an Alice fan from way back too.
I luckily went in knowing that it wasn't going to be anything like the Alice I knew, but moreso a new story incorporating the old characters.
I think Tim Burton did a really nice job of including elements of the original story in flashback form, but he completely makes it his own.
Personally I love reading/watching different interpretations of the story - so I think that's why I didn't feel let down in any way.
    I hope that helps.
I really hope you go see it soon too...interested to see if you love it as well.

P.S I thought I would hate Johnny Depp's Hatter - but he turned out to be my favourite character. He is SO clever at giving such a creepy/insane looking character some humanity.

  15. I love the Alice books however by no means expect a straight adaptation and was really looking forward to seeing what Tim Burton did with the sequel idea. I ended up somewhat disappointed - the plot was very simple and cheesey, and they wasted a lot of potentially awesome ideas. All in all I felt it was underdeveloped and weak, however it was absolutely beautiful visually. Stunning. And not necessarily a BAD movie, just...a little disappointing, and like someone else said, not one of Burton's best.

  16. yeah to be honest with you tim burton's version of alice in wonderland is not really my favourite. it's a great visual but i just didn't buy the whole thing. perhaps if it was tim burton telling the original story i would have liked it more.

  18. Beautiful volumes, beautiful pictures!

I didn't love the movie, and I grew up reading the books again and again too. Everyone else is right, it's supposed to be a continuation of the books with an older Alice, but it really doesn't do the books justice. Tim Burton's aesthetic is great, but the spirit of the movies is Disney, not Lewis Carroll.

  19. I wasn't really a fan of the movie to be honest. I LOVE your blog, I'm so glad I found it!

  20. I've been hesitant to see if for the same reasons you mentioned. :-)

  21. You know, the movie was not bad necessarily..But if you are a lover of the original Alice stories, you should be warned that the movie is different on many levels. I am big fan of Tim Burton, and Johnny Depp was great in this, but the story itself was lacking. It just didn't have that same whimsical, classically-Alice-type feel to it. It is visually beautiful though :]

  22. I liked the movie, the graphic art is exelent, but I think its get a bit of dark sense, exemple the ingredients of make the grow potion is not good things..

  23. ps: is not the grow potion "laughter" is the shrink potion :)

    brazilian hugs!
