What's your favourite TV show?

1. The Wire

2. Gilmore Girls

3. Veronica Mars

If you've been following my blog for awhile you might know the husband and I are big fans of TV on DVD. We're never home at the right times to follow series when they're on TV and it's too hard having to wait week to week for new episodes. DVD is the way to go- we can crank out a whole season of a program in one week if we're really enjoying it.

Anyway after watching the three series above this year (Gilmore Girls for the 3rd time I might add!) we've suddenly found ourselves in limbo with nothing to watch.... So the big question is- what do we watch next? Soprano's? Mad Men? The Shield?

Suggestions please :) :)

And if you haven't watched any of the series above you have to do so now now now! V Mars is a bit sad because it got cancelled so you get left a bit hanging but the glory of the 3 seasons it did air for make it all worth it. Gilmore Girls is classic and The Wire- boy oh boy did that change the standard of what constitutes "good tv" for me- absolutely brilliant on every level.

Anyway let me know what you think!

  1. You should definitely check out the show "Dexter". Beware: It's slightly addictive.

  2. I didn't think I would but I absolutely love Vampire Diaries so definitely check that out if you haven't already.

& If you feel like seeing some pretty English countryside shots see Lark Rise to Candleford (:

  3. Ok, so I'm not going to put these is any particular order because it's too hard.

Futurama: I just think that this show is funny on a subtle cultural level. Start with: ep 1! But def hold out until ep 3.

Seinfeld: Best show about nothing. So many inside jokes and, again, cultural jokes eg. why is hair in the drain different from hair on your head. You have to watch at least 3-5 eps to get in the swing.

The Office (american): One of those shows that seems boring, but is good/excellent once you watch a few eps and get into the swing.

Black books: So funny and off-beat. A real cult classic.

Also good: Summer Heights High, Southpark, NCIS, Daria.

You might have some different tastes though, I'm not really into drama except maybe House. I just now see a recurring theme, they all have a subtle line of cultural humour in them.
Anyways, those are my favs :)

  4. Have you seen "Six Feet Under"? It's a series about a family owning a funeral home and their customers. Wonderful, very dark humour. Oh my.

And Dexter is just as good, just darker, way darker.

  5. I am a huge fan of Gilmore Girls too, it is however a shame that all DVDs aren't available in France.
As for other series advice, I think FRIENDS is something you can never grow tired of. I also got surprisingly hooked on 24.
And I finally admit a guilty pleasure : Gossip Girl.

    -FRIENDS (classic)

-HOW I MET YOUR MOTHER (soooo much fun!)

-DOCTOR'S DIARY (it's very very funny, women love it! it's a german tv show but it looks very "american")

-MALCOLM IUN THE MIDDLE (it's Hilarioussssssss, really surrealistic sometimes! a great great show!)

-MY NAME IS EARL (very funny also!!)

-Cartoons: THE SIMPSONS AND FUTURAMA !!

  26. Bryan Fuller is absolutely brilliant. I love Pushing Daisies and Wonderfalls. They were both canceled prematurely (just like Veronica Mars) but the shows are still a lot of fun, and they did have time to wrap the seasons up a bit so they aren't left on big cliff hangers.
Psych is also a very funny show. I think there are 3 or 4 seasons on DVD already.

  27. How random that I just ran into the same problem and wrote a post about it as well! (http://thesaddestlight.blogspot.com/2010/09/mmm-ryan-atwood.html)

I would recommend the OC and Grey's Anatomy. :)

  28. Big Love is awesome!
But the series isn't done yet so there will be some waiting around when you get to the end of the 3rd season. The fourth is coming out on DVD around Christmas and then the 5th season begins on HBO in the new year.
But it really is worth it. It is great.

  29. I don't watch very much TV, but I do watch TV on DVD. See if you can get Being Erica. It's a great show about a woman who has a chance to go back and fix her regrets.

  33. I would definitely try Mad Men, also LOST, True Blood, The Community, Modern Family, The Office, Lie To Me, Vampire Diaries, Gossip Girl, 90210 the new one.

    ReplyDelete
  34. here are some shows that are good : Dexter, Glee, How I Met Your Mother, House, Lost, The Office, and Modern Family

    ReplyDelete
  35. Lost is sometimes seen as this crazy scifi robinson crusoe (well, it kinda is) but what I absolutely love about it is how it has the character flashbacks. It shows how and why characters act the way they do and really interesting. Also it's a tad bit addicting. But if you can't handle unanswered questions, you won't like Lost.

I'm all about streaming TV series too but can't find anything I like right now either, just gave The Wire a go but the first episode did nothing for me sorry!

  41. Dexter is EXTREMELY addictive.

I don't get sucked into TV shows THAT often, but shows that did manage to reel me in include: LOST, Battlestar Galactica, True Blood, Weeds, Futurama, Burn Notice and Fringe.

  45. Oooh, I second "Freaks and Geeks." So good. Also love LOST, Arrested Development, Friday Night Lights, and am currently working on an old classic, "Twin Peaks." Season One was amazing, Season Two meh.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Mad Men Mad Men Mad Men! I just know you will love it what with all the costuming and 60's charm :)

    ReplyDelete
  47. @Louise you have to give the Wire more than one episodes chance to win you over! The beauty of it is how attached you become to the characters and how important their story lines become to you! it definitely needs a good 4-5 episodes worth of trying out before you decide on it!!

annnnd sounds like Mad Men is the one i must try next!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Definitely Mad Men. Probably the most addictive TV i have ever watched!

    ReplyDelete
  49. in response to your question on my blog.

  50. I just finished watching the first season of Veronica Mars and ADORED it. So great. I'm writing a review for it with loads of movies for my blog after I read up on all my bloglists.

    ReplyDelete
  51. True Blood! Definately the best programme on tv, and there's 3 series of it waiting for you to watch

My other favourites are british comedies - the IT crows, the inbetweeners, alan partrdige, league of gentlemen and peep show

    ReplyDelete
  52. You're the second person today that I see mentioning Gilmore Girls! I super miss the Gilmores! :)

    ReplyDelete
  53. Gosh I miss the Gilmore Girls!!
I'd recommend Gossip Girl, I'm watching it for the third time so its a good one to repeat, or the OC. Or the IT crowd and the Inbetweeners are pretty legendary!

    ReplyDelete
  54. Six Feet Under! After the Wire, I was the same way-- needed a show that could stay on that level. Six Feet Under is expertly written-- just wait till the last 5 minutes!

    ReplyDelete
  55. Gilmore Girls and Veronica Mars!!!!! You know I'm crazy about those 2! I still love re-watching them on DVD over and over. If there's any other TV shows I adore, it's probably Friends and Pushing Daisies.. and I'm currently loving Glee too.

P.S. I love you for posting that Veronica and Logan pic! *swoon* They need to make a Veronica Mars movie ASAP, don't you think?

    ReplyDelete
  56. i like true blood, desperate housewives, the good wife, modern family and the big bang theory! i've seen a few of dexter and mad men too and would love to see more of these two.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Put everything you're doing right now and start watching season 1 of Mad Men. It's an amazing show, but I have to warn you. It took me about 7 episodes before I was drawn in by the characters that my mouth actually dropped. Come stop by for a slice of retro LA sweetie!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I vote, Dexter, Mad Men or The Office :) I'm completely with you on watching TV on DVD... only way to do it!!

    ReplyDelete
  59. If you are looking for darker tv, The Shield and Damages are some of the best shows out there.

And even though it ended and a lot of folks weren't satisfied, I'd still say Lost was one of the best shows ever.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Madmen. It will change your life. I agree with Keely, Dexter too. And for laughs 30 Rock or Modern Family.
