Alice in Wonderland

I still haven't seen Alice in Wonderland at the movies, I've been too nervous to. It was my favourite book as a child, my copy is so worn and tattered from all the times I read it, and I know the movie isn't the story of the book but I'm just psyching myself up to go watch it. I do love Johnny Depp though.

I'm off to the bush

I am away this week on a 46 kilometre hike with my husband and some friends. It takes 4 days and covers big hills so I'm quite excited for the challenge. I've scheduled a few posts for the rest of the week and I'll be back on the weekend to catch up on everyones blogs. Wish me luck! I'll let you know how it goes.

Tea cups and china

I just found the most adorable set of pictures on flickr- tea cups and china! So pretty. I would love to get my hands on those the classic penguin book cover mugs!! I am a firm believer that a cup of tea tastes so much better if it's in a pretty mug or tea cup and even greater when made in a beautiful pot.

I DID IT!

Good news! I passed my white belt incorporated martial arts grading (and so did my husband!). We got our results last night and I got 97% !!!! I am still buzzing :) I came second in our class so I am celebrating a little today. My next grading (for yellow) is in less than 10 weeks so I have some hard work ahead of me but it's good, I'm feeling pretty determined!

Missed Connections

I'm sure a lot of you already know the blog Missed Connections, but I couldn't help but share a few of my favourite recent postings. For those of you who haven't seen the blog before it's written and illustrated by Sophie Blackall of New York and here is a better description than what I could ever write:

Messages in bottles, smoke signals, letters written in the sand; the modern equivalents are the funny, sad, beautiful, hopeful, hopeless, poetic posts on Missed Connections websites. Every day hundreds of strangers reach out to other strangers on the strength of a glance, a smile or a blue hat. Their messages have the lifespan of a butterfly. I'm trying to pin a few of them down.

One of my favourite photographers,Valentina Vos has a new book coming out, "One Seventy Four." For the project Valentina photographed 25 young models and focused on portraying them as girls, not models. Quite an interesting concept!
