Corners of my Home: Here Comes the Sun edition

Wednesday, June 30, 2010

Okay I am a little timid about sharing these pictures so firstly let me say- I have no idea how to use a camera properly- the purpose of these pictures isn't to show off the "photography" because I know nothing about that, it's just so I can show you a little bit inside my world.

Also, I decided to take pictures of some details rather than of rooms in my house because it's not really set up the way I want it to be yet- it's an ongoing work in progress. So here we go:

Anyway I don't even know how interesting that was, but there you have it- those are a few of my favourite things.

Maybe one day in the future I can get better pictures taken, but for now I hope you enjoyed that :)

Trinkets & Treasures

(credit)

Have you ever noticed that other peoples things always seem more interesting than your own? I don't know why it is because I buy the things I love and fill my home with beautiful trinkets and treasures, but whenever I go to a friends house their stuff always seems more interesting than mine.

Maybe I'm just used to seeing my own things so it's fun to explore other peoples treasures. Speaking of which, I'd like every one of the things in these pictures please!

The Honey Trees

The Honey Trees photographed by Simon Filip

The Honey Trees are an indie pop band from California I've recently been introduced to. Check them out on Last Fm for a listen. Aside from being musically gifted, aren't they just beautiful to look at as well?! Such a 500 Days of Summer feel to these pictures.

Alexa Chung out-takes

Publication: The Telegraph
Photographer: Linda Brownlee

Out-takes from a popular Alexa Chung photoshoot in 2007, found via the Fashion Spot. I always have a soft spot for Alexa and her preppy English style.

Also, sadly still no internet at home :( But lots of reading being done in the meantime!

you belong among the wildflowers

So it turns out updating the blog with no internet at home hasn't been as tricky as I thought it would be, thanks to the magic of internet at work and friends houses! Haha.

Anyway aren't these pictures captivating! They are from behind the scenes of a short film for Odylyne's fall collection and taken by one of the lovely Wildfox ladies. I have no idea what kind of camera they were taken with to get that kind of effect but I love it.

Hopefully I'll be able to post the short film when it's finished! I love that so many designers are using short films to tell the story of their collections now.

Corners of my Home

Wednesday, June 23, 2010

How beautiful are these pictures by Cassia Beck! I found her thanks for this weeks Frankie newsletter. Speaking of Frankie- the new issue is out and I'm crossing my fingers and toes that when I go home today it will be waiting in my mail box for me!

Also, these pictures have made me think, maybe I should do a "corners of my home" post with pictures of my own house. Would you guys be interested in seeing that? I'm not a photographer at all so the pictures might be average, but I thought it could be fun to show you a bit more of my world.

Influence

Tuesday, June 22, 2010

in·flu·ence [in-floo-uhns] verb, -enced, -enc·ing.
–noun
1.
the capacity or power of persons or things to be a compelling force on or produce effects on the actions, behavior, opinions, etc., of others: He used family influence to get the contract.

I've been thinking about influence a lot, about how my words and actions affect others around me. I want to be the kind of person that influences others for good, I'm not sure how to do that and this isn't something I have the answers to yet, it's just been on my mind.

What are your thoughts on influence?

(Hannah and Landon)

I don't have any internet at home at the moment so if my posts are sporadic over the next wee while I'm really sorry! The good thing about not having the internet at home is the chance to catch up on my reading and if you saw my birthday post, you'll know I have lots of books to get through!

Also the hubby and I are furiously making our way through season 3 of Heroes and it is so much better than season one and two! I won't give anything away but can I just say- Sylar is the most brilliant and interesting character and the actor that plays him is truly talented! He's not my favourite character (Hiro is all the way, so nice to have a hero you can trust) but wow-oh-wow does he bring the show to life this season!

Today's girl crush: Isabelle McNally. For no other reason than that she's beautiful and I love her wardrobe. And to be fair, as far as I can tell that's all she's famous for anyway! Haha.

(le blog de betty)

I've spent the last 3 days helping out in a boutique jewelry store my friends own so that they could have a holiday and I've had the best soundtrack to serenade me the whole time- She & Him, Iron & Wine, Tegan & Sara and Train. At home I've been thrashing the Beatles and Bob Dylan (of course) and Tilly and the Wall.

What have you been listening to lately?

Best birthday ever!

Sunday, June 13, 2010

Yesterday was my 23rd birthday and boy oh boy did I get spoilt by my husband and friends! I thought I would share with you guys some of the goodies I received so here we go:

Keep Calm and Carry On canvas bag and tin with plasters (too pretty to ever use!)

A gorgeous vintage plate that will be mounted to my wall (thank you husband)

The latest Frankie book and Catcher in the Rye- a classic I've always wanted to own!

Where the Wild Things Are.... another classic I've always wanted to own

Some more books from the Penguin Classic Book cover series. I have so much reading ahead of me now!

A parliament of owls drawn for me by my friend!

A bird cage drawn for me by another friend (surrounded by talent!) and a beautiful interior design coffee table book.

And this isn't even all my presents, I actually got spoilt with so much more but I haven't had a chance to photograph it all.
