On my mind

I apologise if this post is more word-heavy than you are used to, but I have a few things I'd like to get off my chest so I hope you bear with me :)

As some of you who have been reading my blog a little longer may have noticed, things around here have changed a little bit. In the past, 95% of my posts were about the work of others- their photography, their art, their blogs and projects. And I know that's the reason a lot of you started coming here and following along- because you enjoyed the things I would find and share.

As time has gone on the content on here has changed a little and there have been a few (not so polite) mumblings and groanings about it, but also a lot of really positive feedback too. This blog is my little corner of the internet and I don't need to justify to anyone about what I put on here, but I do want to explain myself a little bit because I really do appreciate all the people that visit here and support this blog.

Most of the blogs I read are personal blogs. I read blogs about young married couples, blogs about stylish girls in love with vintage and analog culture, blogs written by smart and sassy young things with a voice and an opinion. It's what I enjoy. And after awhile, the things you are absorbing, also start to come out of you. So yes, I have made a bit more effort to document fun things Jeremy and I get up to and little snippets of my life. But! I am not trying to turn this into a fashion blog and I'm not trying to pretend to be someone that I'm not. But I'm enjoying blogging these kinds of things, and what is blogging if it's not fun to create?

So I just want to say, I'm sorry if it feels like this blog is in a state of limbo. I don't want to alienate my older readers or confuse any of my new ones. I'm still figuring out my voice and direction. But I can promise you I will keep this up and will continue to share the most inspiring photography I can find, the greatest creative projects I can find and maybe a few little snippets of my own life here and there too.

I hope you'll stay and enjoy this journey with me :)

  3. To be honest your blog is moving toward the type of blog that I love to read, plenty of original content in combination with beautiful and inspiring images from around the web. Keep it up, I love your work!

  4. Dont change a thing! Your blog is amazing, it was your photos that inspired me to branch out and buy a Holga instead of only using my digital camera.

  5. you don't have to be anyone but yourself. Your blog is your own space, and no-one should make you feel bad for what you choose to include and discuss in this space. I think your blog is lovely, I only wish I discovered it sooner (sorry, I am a bit slow with these things). And I think the personality of someone shines through their posts - there's a reason why your blog is popular.

I do know how you feel though. I've been having a million and one doubts about my blog, my abilities, etc., etc., over the past few days too. I think we just all need a good hug!

  6. I can't believe you had reproaches about your blog...it's completely yours! and i must say, i like it even more since you share some more personal stuffs. Keep going the way you want!

  7. I could have written this exact post <3

Before 'Royal Milk Tea' I had a personal blog which was more like an online diary, but I decided to start a blog with the idea of it being similar to 'tumblr'... Lots of inspiration, lots of photos, not much about me because I just didn't feel like sharing myself. As time went by I find myself wanting to share more personal glimpses too, but I realised I don't need to document my every thought or move.

I like blogs that have a mix between inspirational posts and little peeks into the author's life (because I'm nosy! Hehe). I think the biggest thing for blogging is to do what makes you happy! I love your blog!

    But seriously...

    Love you Amanda.

  9. Oh, and by you sharing more about you and your daily life.

It encourages others to step out and do the same.

After my giveaway post tomorrow, I'll be sharing a few photos of Rachel, James and I.

    See.. stepping out!

  11. I've said it before, and I'm saying it again. I love your blog! And that's the thing, it is YOUR blog. So do what you want with it because it is yours! Blog for yourself and post the things you want because it's what makes your blog you. I don't know if that maks sense. Just thought I'd put my two cents in. (And that rhymed. HAHA!). Loves ♥ xx

  14. just wanted to add to the tweet...
I personally have been really encouraged by your blog and the fact that you have shown a little about your personal life. I am also a relatively young wife (at 21!) and have been delighted to discover a blogger out there who's also at a similar stage of life. In all honesty, of all the blogs out there I have found yours the most relate-able and real, so thank you for filling your corner of the web with yourself :)

  17. I came to your blog recently and think you have a nice mix. For me, I like personal blogs better. Posts about other people's work/projects are fun to see, but those are the posts (on any blog) that I skip over more quickly. Seeing snippets into other people's lives is much more intriguing to me! Your blog is beautiful.

  18. I agree with the sentiment of most comments here (and you). This is your part of the world that you have chosen to share with others and that means you get to do what makes you happy. As a new blogger I feel like I am rambling along but even so blogging brings some joy so just go with it.

  19. I think your blog is perfect as it is if you're sharing the things you love :) I struggled a little bit to figure out what I wanted my blog to 'be' but then realised that it would be whatever it would be, if I just posted about things I love and the things I do. Like you said, it's your little corner of the internet so post whatever you fancy, your readers can always dodge the stuff they don't care to read about. I think your blog is such a nice balance of fun things you love and fun things you do, keep it up and don't feel discouraged by grumblers, I think the nicest thing in a blog is if you can see the bloggers personality, and I can see yours :) xo

Thank you Amanda for sharing your life with us :)

  22. Oh I think everyone has to evolve and develop. It's natural that our tastes change and you now enjoy different kind of blogs. I personally have one anonymous blog where I write all the personal stuff and follow blogs I like to read (non-fashion related) and of course my fashion blog which you've visited (btw - thank you visiting and leaving a lovely comment - means a lot to me! :) )

P.S. Don’t forget about my giveaway!

  23. your blog is exactly the kind of blog i really love to read! it just comes down to personal preference, but the blogs i look forward to reading the most are the ones which ARE more personal mixed in with bits and pieces about artists/fashion/whatever's on your mind.

you're definitely right-- your blog IS your little slice of the internet, so do what makes you happy and keep doing what you're doing :) x

  24. I'm a new reader and I love your blog! YOUR blog. I think it's so weird when people gets rude and saying that you should write about this and that and starting to interfere. A blog is one's own and if people don't like it, leave then. What's the freakin problem? Blabla, ofcourse you already know all this, but this kind of topics get me so upset! :)

Keep doing what you do! Love K

  29. oh just ignore the grumpy people! it is your blog after all and you put whatever content that you want to put on your space. i personally enjoy other people's works that you post on your blog as much as your snippets on your personal life, so just keep doing what you're doing and most importantly do what you enjoy and like doing. i've learnt that you don't have to please everyone :)

  34. I still love your blog no matter what but I think you've been posting a great mix of other artists and your own life. Actually, the posts about yourself are the most captivating so.. :D

  35. Bloggings about what you want it to be about - that's its freedom. It shouldn't feel like it has to be a prescribed form and type. I think if any one starts heading in that direction they get caught up against a brick wall. By writing about real life and what inspires you - in turn you might just inspire other people xx

    ReplyDelete
  36. Amanda, you are allowed to grow as a curator and an artist! (most) people love your blog because of you and your style - the kinds of photos you love and things you share. To include your personal life is just an extension of that. I'm excited to read on! How boring would life (and blogging) be if we never changed?

  38. your blog is the BEST! don't worry about the negative things that people say. i adore your blog and everything you post ;)

  39. I think the current direction of the blog is fine...i do a mix of this too in my own blog, I share whatever I feel like sharing with the world. Just be yourself

    ReplyDelete
  40. I've also really enjoyed the transformation of your blog to showing personal slices of life and your own photography. :)

    ReplyDelete
  41. i think it's exciting you are posting more of your own life. on my little blog i used to mostly post other people's work and i've now decided to only post my own life and artwork... i think it's more special and personal that way.

  42. I’m staying! I really enjoy following your blog! I like that you are posting more personal stuff, as I believe that when you follow a blog for a while, you get more involved and want to know more about the person behind it. It’s a shame people grumble, damn them! I know how you feel though, as my blog began as an interior design blog, but has naturally evolved into more of a personal one too. I still like to post a bit of everything, but I think we all go through transitional periods, and it is natural for our blogs to change direction. I’ve lost followers along the way, whom I’m sure preferred my ‘interiors’ blog, but tough! This is how I roll now. You just do your thang as you wish! Hope you’ve had a nice weekend :)

  43. Its hard to figure out what you exactly want in a blog. I haven't been reading yours too long, but I think that sounds like a great way to mix things up.

  45. What? Did I miss something? Who grumbled?! You know I love your blog and I love the more personal posts you have been including. It's completely normal for a blog to evolve and change with where you are in your life.

    ReplyDelete
  46. Oh darling girl!! Ignore the haters. It's your blog, you do whatever you like. If people don't like it they can go and read another blog. Sheeeesh! When did we earn the right to complain about reading someone's personal journal!! (for free no less!!).

    ReplyDelete
  47. Aww I love your blog, and your personal posts are my favourite!
Keep up the good work :)
    God bless x

  48. Don't worry about what others think. You should never allow yourself to stray away from what you want on your blog just because others have a problem with it. It'll only hold you back fully expressing yourself. I honestly love your blog and always will because it's genuine and you always have something interesting to share.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Well from all the feedback so far, I hope this reassures you that your blog is just absolutely gorgeous and beautiful and YOURS! Gosh, people that have issues can start their own blogs with things that THEY like.

I love, love, LOVE the new turn your blog is taking, because it's evolving and doesn't become stagnant and not moving with the "times". As we grow older, obviously our personalities and likes will evolve, and this is just reflected through your blog.

LOVE it and LOVE you x

  50. I think a blog is meant first for self expression and second for the entertainment of others. I love your blog and LOVE that you're sharing a little more of yourself with us, so thank you!! xx

    ReplyDelete
  51. I love that you post bits of your life and outfits along with your photography and photography crushes. I dislike blogs that only post about one thing - I find a lot of time that they are very flat and shallow sounding at times.

And besides that this is your blog. You should be blogging for yourself and no one else - if some people don't like your blog then they can go read some other blog and let the rest of us who love this blog enjoy it in peace. <3

    ReplyDelete
  52. People evolve, blogs evolve, and you cannot please everyone.

Do what pleases you and the rest will follow.

  53. I'm looking forward to seeing what you'll share with us!
My own blog has evolved so much in terms of the theme/topics I blog about, so I definitely encourage it! I think it's only natural, and you should only blog whatever YOU want to blog about :)

  54. Even though I set out with a specific idea in mind blogging, I also get side-tracked and am never sure where I'm going. And it drives me nuts when readers desert me after one post if I go off on a bit of a tangent. But anyway, keep it up, I'm looking forward to future developments!

  55. I really like your blog!

  56. Just do what you gotta do. If people can't take it, then so be it. Blogs are meant to be a creative release and you shouldn't hold yourself back because readers can't accept change. You change. We change. Everything will change.

    ReplyDelete
  57. I'm a newer reader but I absolutely love reading more about your own life, in addition to the things you find and share.

Please don't stop sharing more about yourself! =P

  58. just stay the way you are. it's so good that way. i will be staying in the wagon personally.

  59. hi Amanda, thanks a bunch for your very sweet comment! i have to say, i've been here before, through a rash of clicks around the net but didn't follow at that time. also i admit i didn't get into the articles as much as i have tonight. you are quite a writer, so to apologize for doing just that isn't necessary doll. not with me anyways.

i quite adore what i've seen so far and the way your readers respond to you is lovely. true testament to you and your intentions. my take on blogging is that it's an evolving being, just as we are...especially when you are young and whims can carry you away on many tangents. be well, do what you do...it's stellar.

and you know what happens after a state of limbo, new creations is what! many blessings. i'm very happy to find you yet again. ♥
