Sun Flare

The lens flares in these pictures make me so happy. It was a little experiment the husband and I tried the other night and it actually worked! If anyone else wants to give it a go, we shot in the early evening while the sun was on a good angle, I stood in the shade with the sun behind me and Jeremy stood where the sun shone straight onto the camera lens. I love the effect, now I want to try this with one of my film cameras!

If you're looking to experiment with backlighting and sun flares I definitely recommend checking out this post on A Beautiful Mess for more indepth info on how to do it and some handy hints and tricks. Next time we give this a go I think we'll try do it without any use of shade and just the sun behind me. Can't wait!

  1. Lens flare is so commonly thought of as a bother. You've used it well, and it looks really effective. The spots are very neat. Keep experimenting! It's the path to success x

  7. Nice timing considering the earth is about to experience one of the largest solar flares in five years. Apparently there are even chances of seeing auroras & what a photo that would make!

  20. I love when sunflares happen naturally. You can always tell when a fake one has been photoshopped in. The best is when they occur as happy little accidents. :)
