Chinese Lantern Festival

Chinese lantern festivals are celebrated on the first full moon after the Chinese New Year. Every year at this time Auckland puts on an amazing event full of beautiful lantern displays, amazing food markets and incredible performances. This year (the year of the snake - representing wisdom and intuition) Jeremy and I went along and although it was a little overwhelming (it felt like almost of all Auckland was crammed into one tiny park) it was an amazing night. We wandered through the garden admiring the lights, sipped on bubble tea and watched a martial arts demonstration. Such a fun (and free!) event. I love living in this city!

  3. I've always felt that the end of February is a much better time to celebrate 'new year' - certainly here in the northern hemisphere anyway, with spring just around the corner. The lanterns here are beautiful - great photos!

  8. How wonderful. We have the same lanterns when our city celebrated the Chinese new year. The only difference was the size. We have giant lanterns. Hehe. =)
