Balloons over Waikato

(Pictures by me taken with the LC-A+, ISO400 film)

I'm feeling a little nostalgic today! This is the first time in years that I haven't been living in Hamilton for the annual Balloons over Waikato festival. It's one of my favourite times of year - the sky is filled every day with hundreds of hot air balloons and at the end of the week it's finished off with a glowing night time display with fireworks and live music. It feels so weird not being there for it this year but I guess the good thing about living somewhere new is making new traditions and finding fun things in your new city to enjoy.

  1. I still can't get over how stunning these photos are! I know the feeling of missing out on traditions, but it's nice that they existed in the first place. And you're right, you'll make new ones :) and revisit the old ones in years to come.

  7. great pics! Such a waikato tradition. One flew very low right over our house this morning and my 2 year old loved it! We are off to Innes common at 5 for the lift off, and will hit the night glow too : )

  21. if you like hot air balloons and are a traveller, i highly recommend Cappadocia in Turkey. I woke up at 5am to go running everyday and ended my run laying in a field of flowers with balloons rising up above me (30-40 at least) as i sweated away all the delicious food i was gobbling.
