Contributor | Flower Crown Tutorial

Hello friends! It's Bec from Clouds of Colour here again with another guest post. I am sooo excited that Spring is finally here in New Zealand. For me, Spring means plenty of beautiful blossoms and flowers so I thought I'd make a floral crown to wear as the days get longer and warmer.

For this DIY I used: fake flowers in yellow & white, an elastic headband (found at the $2 shop), needle & thread.

First, I cut the flowers from their stems & arranged them so I could get an idea of how many I would need and their placement.

Using a needle & thread I attached the flowers to the elastic headband. So easy and so pretty for Spring! Thank you so much for checking out my DIY today! What does Spring mean to you?

NZ Nutrition Week

This week in New Zealand week has been Nutrition Week. Over the last couple of years nutrition has become something I've been more and more interested in so I was happy to take part in a challenge for the week and write a bit about my experiences.

So for the past 5 days I was challenged to eat eggs for breakfast everyday (no complaints here!) and to record how it made me feel.. I'm a huge egg lover so this was a fun challenge for me and I mixed my days up between poached and scrambled eggs with some avocado, tomato and sprinklings of cracked pepper added as well. The best thing I noticed about eating eggs for breakfast each day was that it kept me full until much later in the day which meant I didn't start unnecessarily start snacking or craving sweet treats.

Coastermatic | Instagram Coasters

I'm pretty excited about the newest addition to my home - these instagram stone coasters by Coastermatic. I made two sets for myself - one with a spring blossom theme and one with a yellow/sunset theme and I'm so happy with how they turned out! I always love concepts like this where I'm encouraged to do something more with my digital images cause otherwise they just stay online and end up getting forgotten about after awhile. Home is Where the Heart Is

This weekend was as close to perfect as I could have wished for and it made me realise how happy I am to be living in Auckland. We've only been here since July last year but we've squeezed so much into that time already and I've fallen head over heels for this city so quickly (if being in love with a city counts as a real thing).  

This weekend was spent soaking up our beautiful Spring sunshine outdoors with friends, eating good food (Pho, dumplings and pork buns were all on the menu) as well as a few cheeky evening wines. This warmer weather also has me so excited for the arrival of our summer and I'm already making a mental list of all the things I want to do this year. As cheesy as it sounds, it's so good living in a city I love, surrounded by people I love and today I'm just feeling really grateful :)

Contributor | How to Get Healthy Habits to Stick

Hello! It's Nicola from Eat Well NZ here with you today.  I thought I'd share with you some of my favourite, most useful tips on getting healthy, happy habits to stick.  Whether you're trying to get fit, change eating habits or learn to relax more, changing behaviour long term can be HARD.  But if you get your mindset right, stay prepared and get support and encouragement it becomes much easier. Today is the day to stop thinking and start changing! Here's how you can do it:

1. Be specific on your motivations
Whatever you want to do,  get really specific about why you want to make the change.  It's something we often gloss over on deciding to make change, but it's a key part to staying on track.  Let's just say you want to start exercising.  If you write down your motivation is "because I want to feel better about myself" then this isn't good enough. Not that there's anything wrong at all with wanting to feel better - hey, who doesn't, but we need to be more specific.  What does feeling better actually mean for you?  For example "I want to feel fitter, stronger and have more energy each day".  Reflecting back on the reasons for change can get you through the times when you want to throw in the towel. When you want to skip another workout  - you can think, "No, because I want to feel fitter, stronger and more energetic". That's so much more motivating than the non specific "because I want to feel better"

2. One step at a time 
When you've decided to make some changes, it feels all very exciting and it's easy to want to try and change everything all at once.  While this works for some people, more often than not it can get too hard and you end up throwing in the towel.  I see it a bit in my work as a nutritionist.  Someone decides to make huge, radical changes to their diet, then get overwhelmed by it all and throw in the towel.   I encourage people to break change up into stages and add to it.  For example,  if you've got a massive sweet tooth, give up sugary drinks first, then once you've conquered that habit, focus on other sources of sugar.

3. Be prepared 
Preparation is key for success, especially in terms of making nutrition changes.  If you're wanting to eat well, make sure your pantry is well stocked with healthy foods.  It's also a good idea to have on hand some healthy treats for when those cravings hit.  You're much less likely to head down to the store to buy junk food if you've got some yummy, healthy things at home.  Some of my favourite treats are fudgey protein bites (as pictured), raspberry, coconut and chia pudding and this healthy chocolate slice.

4. Figure out what the bad habit does for you 
If you're wanting to break a bad habit, it's really useful to figure out what benefit it has for you.  Sounds weird,  but whatever your bad habit, it's actually serving you some sort of purpose. This doesn't mean it's good for you though and what the aim is is to find something else to give you that gratification. For example, if you're eating a block of chocolate when you get home from work, figure out why. It might be that it relieves your stress from a hard day, or you're treating it as your reward for a tough day.  Once you know this, you can figure out what to replace your bad habit with - what would be a healthier option than what you're currently doing?

5. Enlist some support
Encouragement is such a boost when you're trying to change. Get a friend, family member or work mate on board with you so you can stay accountable to each other. There's also lots of apps that can help motivate you to work out, eat healthy and stay on track.  Some of my favourites for exercise are Nike Running, Nike Training Club and Lorna Jane Active.

Mimco | Sisters Across the Sea

Recently I got to take part in a fun collaboration with Mimco. A few kiwi bloggers were selected to take part in their Sisters Across the Sea campaign and I got to pick a couple of items from their new collection ‘The Alchemy Symposium' to style up. Just a Minute in... September

Content has been a little slow around here lately but I have a good excuse - my card reader is broken (yet again). I've had the worst luck with card readers over the last year or so and this is the 5th one that has broken on me. So instead of buying the same one again I've ordered from overseas and until that arrives I'll be making do with iPhone photos instead. I have lots of pictures waiting on my memory card to blogged so hopefully my new reader arrives soon and is a little more reliable than the ones I've been using. So in the meantime, I thought I'd do another round of Just a Minute

Eating... Best Ugly Bagels with friends every weekend, green juices and smoothies from Liquids for Life at Ponsonby Central and sweet treats from Amy's Secret Kitchen. Oh and I'm getting re-addicted to apple slices dipped in salty peanut butter, so good! 

Watching... Suits (we're at the beginning of season 3, almost up to date!), The Mindy Project and its only a couple of days until New Girl is back (so excited). 

Listening.... to a huge playlist that gets added to every day - a mix of Iggy Azalea, Jay Z, Bastille, Phillip Phillips, Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, John Mayer, Katy Perry and Jimmy Eat World. 

Counting down to... Our Melbourne holiday in November (and our fifth wedding anniversary, eep), daylight savings, the Auckland half marathon and all my favourite TV shows starting their new seasons.

My First Half Marathon

This is something I've been talking about for years and now it's finally happening: in November I'll be running my first ever half marathon! I'm pretty excited and have so many things I want to tell you all about it!

Firstly, it's not just me - Jeremy will be running it with me too which is awesome (he's a great training buddy). And most excitingly - we'll be running on behalf of the New Zealand Mental Health Foundation! We're really happy to partner with such an awesome charity and to be able to raise funds and awareness for them along the way.

I'll be checking in with a blog post on my progress most weeks leading up to the event - how the training is going, my goals and challenges along the way and how I'm progressing with this journey. I'm pretty excited!

I'm pretty excited about this dress, I'll be honest. It may not look like the most exciting thing in the world but the fact that it's polka dotted and has a button up collar makes me way too happy. I love it when my favourite things about clothing come together! I think it's going to get a lot of wear this summer too - it has cute little capped sleeves and is a nice, light weight fabric.

Contributor | How to Style a Hair Bow

Hello everyone! Jo from Lost in the Haze here. Today I'm really excited to teach you how to style a hair bow. I'm all about simple tutorials, so there is nothing too overly complex, I promise! Oh, and if you do need any help, please do send me an email.

You will need: 
- A hair tie
- A selection of bobby pins
- Your very own nimble fingers ;)

1. Begin by brushing all of the tangles from your hair, and tying it up into a ponytail on the very centre of your head.

2. Use your hair tie to to put your hair into a loose ponytail style bun. You'll be left with a large amount of hair sticking out the front, which is fine. This will be the centre piece of your hair bow :)

3. Divide the bun area into two, trying to make them as evenly as possible. When they're the size you're after, use a bobby pin to secure them to the top of your head.

4. Finish the look by wrapping the loose hair over the middle of the bow. Tuck it into the elastic band as much as you can, and fix any messy bits with a good ol' bobby pin.

And there you have it! As easy as pie, don't you think? My hair is relatively good at keeping it's shape, but don't hesitate to add a little hair spray if you need it. Oh.. and of course - good luck! xo

Blue Jean Girl

It's so weird thinking it was only this year I started to wear jeans considering how much I live in them now. These blue jeans are my fave and the first pair of pants I've had that haven't sagged in the knee (does anyone else have that problem?). 

These are also the first pics of my freshly coloured hair! I'm so excited because I think I may have fiiiinally gotten rid of the last remaining bits of my ombre. It's crazy to think that back in January I had a middle part and balayage (see the evidence here). I'm defintely happy to have my fringe back and single toned hair again!
