The 'V' Word

I want to be brief with this, but it's something I feel I need to discuss (I shall refrain from ranting, I hope).

Sometime during my 2 year break from this blog, I became a vegan. Some of my friends also are, many aren't - and this has never been a problem. I'm a big believer in a.) not being preachy and b.) that people in my life should know that my personal choices are not a commentary on theirs. However I'd also like to follow up with c.) I do really stand behind my decision and I welcome discussion whenever people have questions.

Since then, I've had a few jibs and jabs about it from people in my life - but for the most part no one has really cared - and so they shouldn't, as it effects no one but myself. However, it does feel like there's a weird mindset around veganism and that brings me to this article on Vice. It's a good read, I encourage you to click through and check it out, because it explains my view better than I probably can.

TLDR; I really like vegan food, my body thrives on it and with the information I have I feel it's the best decision I could make, but if you're not vegan, I don't give a flying f*ck. You do you, let me do me and let's all just move on.

Lastly, I made a video of what I eat in a week, you can view it here, and I promise it's not just lettuce leaves and water x

We've officially pulled off the move!

Leaving New Zealand and our jobs, friends, family and comfy lifestyle behind was always going to be a bit of a risk but we knew it was something we just had to do. Our month of travelling around exploring new locations was incredible but as soon as we got to Edinburgh and realised it was time to face reality, it was a completely different feeling.

We had 3 big things we needed to achieve as quickly as possible: a job each and our own house. I (Amanda) got a job, we managed to get a house (after a lot of complications with agencies) and now we're pleased to say - Jeremy got a job too! So it feels like we officially pulled off this whole thing.

I don't want to sugar coat it at all though, it was tough. We borrowed money off friends twice. I cried at work a couple of times. We ate a lot of baked beans on toast and spent time bouncing between pep talks and self doubt. But we actually did it and we're both in jobs we love and we couldn't be happier with our little home.

So the plan for the rest of the year: entertaining some friends who are coming to stay (my cousin is up first, so excited), visiting York and hopefully Spain and basically just nesting and enjoying our own home and starting to make friends here.

Here's the latest video, thanks for following our journey!
